Théodore Beza (1519-1605) French theologian

Born in France, Beza taught Greek in Lausanne from 1549 and was called to Calvin's Academy in Geneva becoming its rector in 1559. He was active in representing Genevan teaching around Europe and when Calvin died in 1564 he also became moderator of the Company of Pastors. He wrote a Greek text of the New Testament and defended Reformed teaching on the sacraments and predestination. He strengthened Presbyterian church government, write a life of Calvin, and developed Calvin and Knox's teaching on the right of revolution against tyrannical and idolatrous governments.
